BAD: I’m worried about Gustav. He is scaring me. I pray we don’t have a repeat of Katrina.
GOOD: Check out my new user pic Made Especially for Me by the most awesome debutante around anywherebeyond
Saundra also made me another one that, I must say, made me SQUEAL with delight and clap like a one year old baby getting ready to dive into their first cupcake. It is that cool…
TEH AWESOME:
We were joking around today in Deb’s Chat about some of our friends encounter with the A$$ Pirate http://jenlyn-b.livejournal.com/159071.html and Gossip Girls (yes, we are that lame on Labor Day Weekend) about another Deb making a comment about Debs being YA Goddesses and Saundra said something about us being soccer moms and I said, “Not me. I looked like Blake Lively before I had kids.”
Tank you, Mizz Whoa!
1. Picked up E from kindergarten. Get both kids in the car. Air temp? 95 degrees.
2. Key in ignition. Car doesn’t start.
3. Car still doesn’t start.
4. Car still doesn’t start. Gets the kids out of the car. Parks BB in her stroller in the shade (thank god I brought it!)
5. Spots a man in parking lot who looks like he knows about cars. Asks him for help. He does know about cars. He grabs his toolbox and messes with the battery. Which is dead. No jumper cables.
6. Calls AAA.
7. AAA messes with car. Battery dead AND starter broken. Nice AAA guy gives us bottles of water.
8. Car must be towed. I fed BB before we left and E’s teacher gave him graham crackers so we’re okay for the time being.
9. Calls friend. She comes to pick us up (yay!)
10. Watch car get towed away.
11. Tow Truck Guy calls, “The mechanic isn’t here. He doesn’t work on Fridays.”
12. It’s a three day weekend. Which means I have no car until Tuesday. Thank god we weren’t on the road someplace or had non refundable reservations somewhere.
13. EGADS!
1. jbknowles signing and talk was so much fun! We had a lovely pre-signing panini dinner. Picture tomorrow along with a CONTEST where I’ll be giving away a SIGNED COPY of Jo’s intriguing novel Lessons from a Dead Girl!
BB had the most fun I think being passed around and cuddled. Hope some of the awesomely kind creativity oozing from these great ladies leaked into her!
2. Jo’s talk was great. Her journey toward publishing was so cool, you’ll have to ask her about it sometime. literaticat likened those first practice novels as “pancake novels” i.e. the ones you toss out (I make a joke like this in SEA about the first waffle…) and that was such a perfect analogy for those wasting away in our drawers. (I have two or three rotting away…) Jo said the best advice she heard was “find the truth” in your work. Not literal truth, but emotional truth. Brilliant. Can’t wait for Jo’s second novel, Jumping Off Swings, which comes out Fall, 2009.
3. After the talk, I came home and watched the Democratic Convention. Loved it. Can I say how much I love Joe Biden? What incredible character and integrity that man possesses. Can we please have some character and integrity in the White House? Please America? Pretty please? And despite his, er, shortcomings, I love Bill. I really really do. ‘Course I can’t look at him without thinking of the comedian on Saturday Night Live doing the spot-on imitation of him jogging to McDonalds, stuffing his face while sporting that outrageous running outfit, but he was a great leader and he is such a charismatic speaker.
4. Third Day of Kindergarten still a success. Yay!
5. It’s 95 degrees here today! We are melting, yet happy and full of hope.
Thanks to Jennifer, Shannon, and Jo for such an awesome event and to Debbi for setting up the early meeting spot…
Here’s a pic of me and sleeping BB with the lovely Jo Knowles (where she looks like the actress from E.R. for some reason)
1. I know we aren’t supposed to discuss politics, religion or the s.e.x. word publicly, but I must say, I am loving the Democratic Convention. I love Michelle Obama. If Senator Obama becomes our next president, which I sure hope he does, she will make a remarkably poised, bright and wonderful first lady. I also think their kids are charming and adorable, and may I say it? They seem like a normal family. Like people we’d be friends with. (Not that we’re normal, but you know what I mean) I also loved Senator Clinton’s speech. I got choked up watching. I’ve mentioned this before but I must again: I’m so happy that my children are born at a time when a woman almost became the presidential nominee and an African American man is our presidential nominee.
2. Why does public kindergarten start at 8:00 a.m.?
Doesn’t the World At Large know mommies and boys like to watch Arthur and lounge in our p.j.’s in the morning? No? I didn’t think so. Aside from the early start time, E is loving it. ‘Course today he wanted to draw his typical person which includes a head and a giant triangle shaped body with claws for toes and he said his teacher suggested he “add clothes.” lol
3. He draw his baby sister like a giant egg. No eyes, no limbs, nothing else but a giant egg. Hmm…what does that mean exactly?

4. My new addiction? GOSSIP GIRLS. I must admit I drool over their clothes and I’m not a ‘clothes’ person normally. But man, that show has style. I DVR’d a season pass and am randomly catching up with last season. It is so good. And I love the promo ads for this season with the parental warnings. So funny. “Parents be afraid,” etc. ha ha. I actually inspired my dear friend anywherebeyond new Chuck icon, “nasty hot” because he so is! (And no, I haven’t seen the controversial season opener, I’m told I should skip it or I may think he is just plain nasty).

5. I’m going to see this lovely author lady tonight for her book signingjbknowles and am meeting her and a bunch of other lj people before hand at a French Cafe…how writerly chi chi is that? BB is coming too. You know she’s the hippest almost four-month-old around…
I will post a pic of our gathering at Books Inc. with Jo tomorrow!
=D
…off to kindergarten!
It’s so hard to not become the total mommy cliche’ uttering, “Just yesterday he was a baby in my arms…”
But it real feels like he was.
My husband wanted to take him and took the morning off for it (very sweet), but I wanted to take him too, so we were scuffling over it but it would be hard with the BB, it’s an hour earlier than we got up for preschool and for camp. Why does public school start at 8 a.m.? I’ll never know.
Anyway, I got up and helped get him ready in his little prep-boy collared shirt and new pants–packed his snack and water bottle and a change of clothes in his Pirates of the Caribbean backpack.
He wasn’t nervous, but was a tad peeved that he had to leave right away (he likes to lounge and watch Arthur on PBS in the mornings), so I showed him a You Tube of Alice in Wonderland’s UNBIRTHDAY SONG and that got the party started. I gave him a big hug goodbye (with no tears) and he was off with a big smile.
D came back a minute ago and said it was a big success. They parked a bit away and rode their scooter/skateboard respectively the rest of the way (nothing like arriving in style!)
Right away E spotted one of his buddies from sports camp and they were likethis the rest of the time D was there. We weren’t sure he’d know anyone in his class (there are four kinder classes) so this is great news.
And now BB’s sleeping. Whoa. Wait a second…does this mean I’ll have some writing time? =D
Hope all of your first-days-of-school are going well!

We just welcomed our FIFTEENTH Tenner!
Can’t believe it. Our newest author’s book is about the mystery surrounded 2012 and looks awesome.
Remember if you know (or is) someone who recently accepted an offer from a major publishing house scheduled for debut in 2010 please send them our way.
And, as always, anyone is welcome to “watch” the community.
